Hutt River Province

The Principality consists of undulating farmland well covered in places with a wealth of shrubs and glorious wildflowers.

H.R.H. Prince Leonard has named parts of the Principality with such identities as Lake Beginning, Mount Secession, Lake Serenity and Wild Boar Gorge.  His town has been developed with many buildings to provide facilities for the tourists who visit in their thousands each year.

These facilities include The AdministrationBuilding containing the Government Office and Post Office, Tea Rooms with Swimming Pool and a charming Inter-Denominational Chapel as well as the arcade housing the Memorabilia Dept. and Historical Society displays.

The province is open for visitors between 10am and 4pm daily.

Visitor visa’s are available in the Government Offices, for a minimal charge. Passports may also be stamped for Entry/Exit at no charge.

Upon arrival you will be met by HRH Prince Leonard, or in his absence, another member of the Royal Family who will warmly greet you and guide you through the Principality's main buildings.

During this tour you will be shown all matters of importance and interest and the story of the Principality and its People will unfold. A great opportunity exists, at this point, for you to have any questions that you may have answered and Prince Leonard and his Family will be only to happy to assist. Basic facilities exist for campers or caravans/mobile homes to camp for a night or two with an ablution block, generated power and limited water available for use. These simple facilities, along with the relaxation afforded by the Principality's private swimming pool in summer (free for use) we trust will enable you to take a short break and alleviate the need for the traveller to rush his visit.

Pink Lakes

60km south of Kalbarri on George Grey rd lay the Pink Lakes, which depending on the time of the day and the levels of the Beta Carotene, turn into a magnificent plain of bright pink water.

Microscopic algae called Dunaliella Salina occurs naturally in the salt lakes. This algae blooms under the right conditions (warm weather, high salt concentrate) and produces cartenoids, like other plants these cartenoids help protect the algae from the harsh conditions.

Cartenoids are a name for a group of pigments found in fruits and vegetables, which give them their bright colours. For example Beta Carotene and Alpha Carotene are orange and found in carrots, Cryptoxanthin and Lutein are yellow and found in corn. Dunaliella salina contains a mix of cartenoids including Beta Carotene and Alpha Carotene, Cryptoxanthin, Lutein & Zeaxanthin... this is the colour you see in the lake!
