The Principality of Hutt River (PHR) is located approximately 65kms south of Kalbarri and is well worth the visit as well as your opportunity to make that international visit and have your passport stamped.

The Principality seceded from the Commonwealth of Australia back on April 21 1970. HRH Prince Leonard ruled over this new nation for some 47 years until on Feb 11 2017 he abdicated as Sovereign due to his age (91 at the time) and his failing health in favour of his youngest Son Prince Graeme, who he Enthroned as the PHR’s second Sovereign Prince in a Ceremony held in Princes Shirley’s Chapel of Nain on that date.

The Principality consists of undulating farmland well covered in places with a wealth of shrubs and wildflowers. H.R.H. Prince Leonard named parts of the Principality with such identities as Lake Beginning, Mount Secession, Lake Serenity and Wild Boar Gorge. The town of Nain has been developed with buildings to provide facilities required for the PHR Government & Subjects as well as the many tourists who visit each year.

These facilities include The Administration Building containing the Government Office and Post Office, and a charming Inter-Denominational Chapel housing some wonderful paintings by Sir Frank Pash; as well as the arcade housing the Memorabilia Dept. and Historical displays.

The Principality is open for visitors between 9am and 4pm daily (except Christmas day). Visitor visas are available at the Kalbarri Visitor Centre for a minimal charge. Passports may also be stamped with the Entry/Exit Visa on arrival at the PHR Post Office for the same small charge.

Basic facilities exist for campers or caravans/mobile homes to camp for a night or two, with an ablution block and limited water available for use. Bring a picnic meal and use these simple facilities, along with the relaxation afforded by the Principality.
